What is an A Line Skirt?
An a-line skirt is a type of skirt that is usually high-waisted and wider as you get closer to the hem. Its name is self-explanatory – a-line skirts look the same as an upside down ”A”!
I think of it this way, if you take the little hat off the top of a capital ”A” you have the exact shape of an a-line skirt. The small line connecting the arch of the ”A” represents a waist while the lil flared out legs on either side represent a skirt’s hem. Do you see it now?
A traditional a-line skirt hits at the knee or a little above it. However, we here at Style Files believe every high-waisted skirt with a significantly wider hem than waist is considered a-line.
After all, it’s about the shape! It’s entirely possible to have a mini a-line skirt, a maxi a-line skirt and everything in between. As long as the skirt stays true to the form of an a-line – tapered waist, wide hem – it’s all a-line to us.
Why we Love A-Line Skirts
I love a-line skirts since they’re flattering for my body type. I’m short. I have a small torso and a nice waist. Needless to say, I LOVE a-line skirts. When paired with heels, they make your legs look better and your waist look tiny.
I especially love an a-line mini skirt since the hem seems more exaggerated. It adds the right kind of dimension to make your look more interesting. I love a bodycon midi skirt sometimes too, but a good a-line skirt won’t have you feeling self-conscious.
In fact, these skirts are confidence boosters! They give you that hourglass shape without needing to try. Whether you dress them up or dress them down they give you high fashion. Sounds like a closet essential to me!
