We all need a vacation. Okay, I technically just returned from one; I was in St. Lucia in mid-February. But listen, now that I’ve gotten back on top of my emails and work stuff, it’s time for another vacation!

    St. Lucia’s Magic

Frankly, after being on that island, I didn’t understand why I work as hard as I do. In St. Lucia, life seemed more carefree and relaxed. Of course it’s an entire island with working people, students, government officials, etc.

So it’s not as if no one works there or that stress doesn’t exist. It just seemed to me how people worked was less strenuous as it is in America.

There was a general attitude of ”it got done, regardless”. Meaning even if my taxi arrives half an hour later than I anticipated, ”it got done, regardless”.

If I ordered my drinks 20 minutes ago and they’re only just now being served, ”it got done, regardless”. There wasn’t a strict dedication to time limits which I thought would irritate me more than it did.

Instead, the more easygoing nature of Lucian locals became something worthy of aspiration. What is really the point of stressing yourself out just to make the exact time to the second of a small task? The task will be completed regardless!

An important lesson I learned is the only timetable worth abiding by is an airport’s. Everything else is divine timing and if it’s meant to be, it will happen. Your stress or planning or anxiety won’t speed anything up that wasn’t meant to happen anyway.

That was a valuable lesson for someone with habits like mine to learn. I used to get angry at people for being late to appointments by a few minutes. Now, I realize if my entire mood can be impacted by something as trivial as a few minutes, I have larger problems than someone else’s tardiness.

There’s too much going on in life to care significantly about one person being a little late to something. At the end of the day, we all have bigger issues to tackle.

I look at the below list as an aspirational extension of the lessons I learned in St. Lucia. I enjoyed that trip so much and the new perspective it gifted me!

I look at the dresses below as tickets to a new adventure. If I’m going to be learning about more of my flaws and how to rectify them, I want to look damn good doing it!

Which of the dresses below are you packing for your next vacation?

Crochet is hard to get right. Often times I see patterns and color palettes that are more off-putting than they are stylish. So, when I find a crochet anything that hits the mark, I remember it. As it was with this Alexis masterpiece!

Alexis consistently makes dreamy vacation wear and now this dress is at the top of that list. The side rib cage to ankle cut-out detail is sublime paired with the sexy peekaboo crochet of the entire maxi. The yellow is the perfect hue that could either go daffodil or sunset. I love the scoop neckline, the slightly thick straps and curve-hugging silhouette. This dress is a knockout, through and through. Who wouldn’t want to wear it to date night on a beach?

Hello, expert embroidery! This dress is so cute and flirty; it’s irresistible! I’ve been leaning more toward midi dresses these days so I enjoyed finding a mini dress that really excited me.

What I love about this one most is the beautiful periwinkle shade and playful embroidered designs. The neckline and perfectly designed fit-and-flare style also add to the dress’s overall success. It’s the perfect lighthearted pick for any vacation!

Sometimes it’s better to keep it simple. Satin/silk midi dresses have been on trend for a few years now; namely for resort wear. When I was in St. Lucia there was one woman in the wedding party that wore variations of the same silk dress to every single event. The dresses only differed in color! That’s to say these silk midi dresses with cowl necks are hot right now.

This dress makes me understand the trend. It’s another beautifully colored yellow piece that’s sure to flatter your shape. I love the high cowl neckline here; I’m used to seeing cowl necks lower so this was a pleasant surprise. This dress also has adjustable straps that meet together in the back adding for a sexy element to an otherwise backless dress. It’s sexy, simple and bright!

This is the perfect dress for a party during your vacation or a day dress for shopping!

Looking for something girly and versatile? This dress is all you! It’s a mini dress with some puffy short sleeves, keyhole cutout in the middle of the bust and scoop neckline. The floral pattern uses a soft, vintage color palette that pops with the metallic effect all over the dress.

This is the perfect piece for going out, brunch or any other slightly formal daytime event. For me, I’d wear this any day of my next vacation. It’s both casual and dressy which is rare to find in a mini dress!
