Are Accessories Necessary?

Simply: yes. If you want a great outfit, an accessory is necessary; whether it be a bag, a belt, some earrings or even ornate socks. The right styling makes or breaks an outfit.

Consider the example of Rosamund Pike and Meghan Markle wearing the same dress.

The dress is flattering on both women, but which outfit is more composed? Which outfit is more indicative of formal event attire? The answer is clear: Meghan.

Meghan’s fascinator with a matching clutch elevate this look. She looks elegant, proper and put together. While Rosamund looks lovely, this dress looks casual on her because it’s plain. There’s no jewelry, bag, or hair accents that speak to the red carpet-esque nature of her event.

Appropriateness to the event aside, Rosamund’s outfit is underwhelming. It’s a simple dress with open-toed heels. Nothing exceptional or memorable.

Whereas Meghan’s outfit has flair thanks to her tasteful accessories. They work together to make a statement about her style. After all, fashion is expression and I glean more meaning from Meghan’s style communication than Rosamund’s.

Accessories are essential to great fashion. They express the wearer’s priorities and individuality. From a technical perspective, they are also indispensable. The right belt can sinch a waist to highlight the wearer’s curves, the right decorative hair clip holds back flyaways while adding the the right playful element to your look.

We recognize the power of accessories to create great looks. And we recognize the right accessory is worth a steeper price.

Our Favorite Designer Accessories

Designer accessories are like all great investments. If you buy right, they will last a lifetime.

In my accessory experience, I don’t value belts. For whatever reason I only ever own one belt for years at a time. And I only get rid of it when I outgrow it or it’s too weathered to fix.

I’m currently in need of a new belt and I intend to buy a designer one since I know higher quality materials will be used. I also think it’s in our nature to take extra care with designer goods to make them last longer.

I would definitely do so if that meant I didn’t have to buy a new belt for a while.
