Poppy Lissiman makes luxury sunglasses for the “cool” person. You know, the person who’s always on trend in an effortless way.
What is Poppy Lissiman?
Poppy Lissiman specializes in those Instagrammable sunglasses for the 20 somethings that want to match with their favorite celebrities without paying celebrity prices.
A few years ago I was on the hunt for new sunglasses and Poppy Lissiman’s name kept popping up. I eventually caved and was pleasantly surprised at their offerings. I even bought a pair – The Hyacinth.
They’re a Cream Marble/ Blue Gradient color that’s actually still available on PL’s website. When I received the shades, they were simply too bold for my early 20s aesthetique so I returned them.
While they didn’t work out for me, even then I recognized their cool appeal.
Cool is PL’s specialty. Their shades are all the ones you see on runways and magazine ads, but for lower-than-you’d-expect pricing.
I recently took another look at their selection and there are a few pairs I wouldn’t mind grabbing now. I’d like to think I’m bold enough now to flaunt any of the below pairs!
The Shades
Ren in Black
I’ve been looking for exactly these sunglasses for forever. The muted cat-eye frame and blocky temples are everything.
And the only brands that make them well also cost a lot. Here, $145 is a relatively great price compared to other designers’ $400+ asks.
The gold studs are another unique element I appreciate as an anchor to Poppy Lissiman’s signature slanted logo on the temples.
It makes the frames balanced and gorgeous. The Ren is also available in many other shades – the multipurpose black just happens to be my favorite!
Starman in Gold/Eggplant
Hello, PL’s refreshing take on the increasingly boring aviators!
Aviators have often reminded me of the pilot character in Animal Crossing (Or was it Webkinz? Or both?) and for possibly just that reason I’ve never owned them. However, these shades make me want to change my mind…
These shades are retro, unique and pretty. The eggplant is such a beautiful shade of purple plus the gold detailing makes them fit for a galactic warrior princess; Basically these sunglasses are giving me sexy Star Trek if that’s possible.
The Starman is available in either Gold/Eggplant or Silver/Peach – with this price, either choice is the right choice.
Le Skinny
Thanks to Rihanna, Beyoncé and every other fashion icon, skinny sunglasses are the latest aesthetically (not functionally) appealing accessory.
They add a last-minute edgy feature to any outfit. And now Poppy Lissiman is here to get you in the small shades game with Le Skinny!
While Le Skinny is available in 8 colors, summer’s on my mind and Pink/Pink delivers on the best summertime look. The lenses actually look orange rather than pink in the light so it’s giving very much sweet sunset.
The narrower shade may seem easy to get right, but trust me once you compare others to PL’s you’ll be disappointed. Here the shape is just right, the logo is just right and the acrylic material is just right. Now get right with yourself and grab them!
Ryder in Torti/Zebra
I like to think of Ryder as a step forward in Ren’s evolution. It retain’s Ren’s cat-eye shape but boosts the volume on the frames and temples.
The zebra print is also unique to Ryder; This style is available in solid Black, Torti/Zebra (pictured) and Zebra (the temples of torti/zebra extended out to the lenses).
It was a hard choice for my favorite between Torti/Zebra and Zebra. I’ll be honest Torti/Zebra may have only won because it sounds more like an Italian pasta dish than a designer accessory.
In all seriousness, I do love the prints paired here. You wouldn’t expect them to work, but they just do. They’re proof we should take more risks with pattern mixing!
The same benefits of the Ren shade apply here: the thick temples, the cat-eye lenses and the bold logo. With the Ryder we just get an upgrade in both volume and pattern which are essential to statement glasses.
If you’re ready to make a statement, check out the Ryders now!
Final Word
Poppy Lissiman delivers on everything you’re looking for in a pair of sunglasses. Whether you’re looking for everyday shades or something that pops, this is your site.
The styles are “trendy” but that doesn’t mean their appeal will fade. I’m sure the shades above will be in fashion for a long time to come.
