Now that you’re caught up, you’re ready for episode 7!

    Swim Meet

This episode’s challenge theme was swimwear. Frankly, this theme doesn’t excite me. I don’t know how to swim so swimwear isn’t relevant to me. Also in terms of fashion, there are so many other themes and concepts more interesting to pursue than simply swimwear. Nevertheless, this is the challenge and that’s that.

For the swimwear challenge each designer must make one men’s look and one women’s look in 4 hours. Because Desyreé won last episode’s challenge, she chose her partner as well as pairing the other designers together. She chose Amari as her partner and she paired Deontré with Nigel then Bao with Meghan.

The designer pairings were smartly planned! Both Deontré and Nigel specialize in menswear while both Bao and Meghan specialize in womenswear. Off top I figure the only team that could feasibly create a great men’s and women’s look is Desyreé and Amari.

But we know this is a talented group of designers so let’s see how this plays out.

Update: It did not play out well.

    The Show

This episode we were lucky enough to have Jason Bolden back as a guest judge. I love Jason! He’s a talented with an intimate understanding of fashion, he offers great critiques and he is an expert in considering fashion from a commercial perspective. Any episode where he is missing feels lacking.

Paired with the fabulous Jason Bolden is… Candice Swanepoel. Uh why? I understand she’s a Victoria’s Secret model. How does that make her credible? As a designer I would prefer having another talented, successful designer consider my work over. A designer can provide valuable feedback about your craft whereas a model could provide future commissions but little else.

I’m going to be honest, this choice for guest judge combined with the lackluster challenge theme makes me feel… uninspired. It’s really only the talent of every designer left that motivates me to see the show. So here we go!

The other designers had issues with fit and concept. Ultimately it was Meghan who was chosen to leave. But that wasn’t the end of the episode!

The remaining 5 designers chose a bag with a decade inside: 50s, 60s, 70s, 80s and 90s. Onto the next episode to see how this transpires!
