I’m obsessed with Amour Vert. For a lot of reasons! Firstly, they have great basics and understated apparel. Secondly, and most importantly: it’s one of the rare women’s clothing brands that’s actually sustainable.
How is Amour Vert Sustainable?
- Responsibly sourced and produced fabrics – Amour Vert sets the standard for sustainability in fashion. Every fabric they use is sustainably sourced, easily traced and high quality. This is vital to a brand’s ethical mission since fabric is the essence of the garment! Its source and handling is of the utmost importance to prove a brand is sustainable. A few of Amour Vert’s sustainable fabrics include cottonseed cupro made from recylced plant fiber, ethically gathered wool, and Paris Rib made from FSC-certified beechwood fibers. (FSC certification verifies products come from responsibly managed forests). Amour Vert only uses fabrics that are not harmful to the planet or its inhabitants.
- Transparency, really. – Amour Vert understands that the key to being an ethical brand is proof. They provide evidence every step of the way; each of their garments is made in California, every fabric used is traceable, and they work with third-party agencies (like FSC and American Forests) to support their sustainable mission. You can learn more on their thorough website!
- ReAmour, their in-house resale marketplace – Amour Vert doesn’t forget about its garments once they’re purchased. They recognize a lot of clothes end up in landfills. And they’re taking responsibility to not be a part of that problem. ReAmour is their resale marketplace where you can sell and purchase gently used Amour Vert pieces. By offering this service, Amour Vert is ensuring their clothes have longer lifespans! And we all benefit from investing in their quality clothes at a reduced price.
Unlike other women’s clothing brands that conceal their production information, Amour Vert is a brand that is transparent about their ethics. Their ”About” page is the perfect blueprint to refer to when you’re unsure about a brand’s commitment to ethical production. In fact, Amour Vert’s ”Sustainability” page taught me exactly what to look out for when shopping other brands.
Always be sure a brand firstly has an “About” or ”Sustainability” page. If a site has neither, that’s a major red flag. Another red flag is not referencing third parties in their sustainability mission. Including third parties ensures the brand has other companies that co-sign their work, and keep them honest.
The third thing you should look out for is factory labor stats/facts. The brand should say something about where and by whom their products are created. The best is if they use a Fair Trade certified factory. Or another third party agency committed to providing safe and fair factory working conditions.
If a site has none of this information, it’s safe to assume it operates under a fast fashion model. And it should be avoided!
Now, that we know what to look out for, we can go back to the ethical brand model: Amour Vert. They have the closet essentials you need with strong values in mind! The last time I looked around their site, I found these lovely pieces to covet.
Are you in the market for more essentials?
Jane Paris Rib Top
Honestly, I love ribbed anything. My favorite dress is a black ribbed midi that cost me $15. My go-to shirt is a black ribbed high-neck short sleeve top from a brand that shall not be named (fast fashion). I’d love to swap that one for this one!
You can tell this top is high-quality from the way it sits on the model. And it looks oh-so soft! I’m loving the 3/4 sleeve as well. It adds something interesting to what would otherwise be just another ribbed tee.
Mari Mixed Cupro Top in Quartz
Speaking of comfortable fashion, this sweatshirt is everything! It looks so warm and cozy I want to wear it now. More than its comfort elements, it’s a beautiful piece!
It’s made from a blend of Amour Vert’s Cottonseed Cupro and Paris Rib fabrics resulting in a luxurious, soft top. I love the color best; I’m a h*e for dusty rose. But it’s all great with this top!
Lux Sleeveless Dress in Jadeite
What a gorgeous dress. That teal? That high neck? That midi length? I love it all.
This beauty is made entirely of the Paris Rib fabric. So you can rest easy knowing the garment you’re wearing is composed of only sustainably farmed, recycled beechwood. How cool is that? You get a gorgeous essential while doing good for the environment!
AGOLDE Recycled Leather 90s Pinch Waist Jeans
I’m obsessed with these pants. If these pants don’t have a fan club, I’m creating one momentarily. Or jeans rather. (The term jeans refers to the pants’ style not its fabric. I just learned that.)
Honestly, I’m in the market for jeans I don’t hate. And these fall on the exact opposite of the hate spectrum. I love the color, the straight leg and the slight crop. Not only that, it’s available in multiple colors! Sold.
Castile Paris Rib Dress in Zinnia
Amour Vert knows how to make classic clothes. Case in point, this beautiful red dress. It’s so elegant and composed; you could wear this to a business meeting or date night!
The long sleeves and interesting tie-waist detail is what draws me. The midi length with slits at the hem are what sells me! I love this dress and everything else Amour Vert has to offer.
