I’m bag-obsessed. I have a (potentially unhealthy) fascination with beautiful handbags; they’re the perfect accessories to instantly glam up your outfit with minimal effort. What’s not to love?
Okay, their price tags are not exactly worth admiring. But don’t all investments seem a little outrageous at first? A great bag lasts a long time! And like any investment, they pay for themselves (if not for more) in the future.
Why Invest In a Designer Bag
- They Pay for Themselves. Eventually: Certain designer brands can be resold later at equal or higher value! Brands like Hermès, Chanel, Louis Vuitton, Goyard, Christian Dior, etc. often retain their value. Especially when they’re preserved well. Vintage designer bags always come back in style, eventually. So, like stocks just hold on to them and you may just reap the benefits!
- Their cost per wear ratio is fantastic: The cost per wear formula is the total cost of the item divided by the number of times you’ll wear them. Let’s say you buy a jacket for $300 and you wear it 3 days a week for a year. If you divide 300 by 156 you get a cost per wear of $1.92. (Which is fantastic, by the way.) You can apply the same logic to bags! If you buy a luxury item and use it every single day, it practically pays for itself.
- High quality means long wear: Buying a designer bag means buying a luxury item. It’s something made of high-quality fabrics and materials made to last. Instead of buying cheap, trendy bags why not buy one quality bag to replace them all? Sounds reasonable to me!
Beautiful accessory? Check. Heirloom to pass on? Check. Future money maker? Check!
While I’m partial to designer bags in general, crossbody bags are my current favorites. They’re my go-to for everyday! I just sling it over my shoulder and run around town. Perfect for me who doesn’t like to battle their bag as they do errands.
Also, other types of bags require a lot more of you. For example, a top handle bag requires a whole hand! I don’t have time for that. A crossbody is a gorgeous, low maintenance alternative!
I’m on the hunt for a new crossbody now. I’m worried I’m working the ones I have too hard.. So here’s my list of current favorite options as backups.
Which one is your favorite?
Stella McCartney Falabella Mini Shoulder Bag
My favorite crossbody bags are Stella McCartneys. They’re just easy, statement and gorgeous. And I don’t know what it is, but I freaking love a chain strap!
I love this crossbody in particular because it’s a manageable size, joyful color and so chic. It’s like a a large wallet on a chain in the best way! I see this bag as the perfect accessory to errands of all kinds. I want to look the best in the grocery store d*mn it and this bag is taking me there!
Off-White Binder Striped Flap Crossbody Bag
Talk about a statement strap. This bag’s woven strap combined with its bold patterning on the body is giving me modern 80s energy. (If that’s possible.)
In true Off-White fashion, there’s a binder clip on the flap which adds an element of utility to an otherwise playful bag. Also, I actually use a small binder clip to secure my credit cards instead of a wallet. So I should match my makeshift wallet with my bag!
I’d love to add this statement piece to my wardrobe to make every day feel special.
Stella McCartney Frayme Small Shoulder Bag
Listen, you already know I love Stella McCartney. You shouldn’t be surprised that I have another one of her gorgeous bags on my list. I mean, can you blame me?
This half-moon-esque bag is everything. The shape is distinct, the color is elevated and once again, that beautiful chain! I love every element.
Louis Vuitton Coussin PM in Taupe
Louis Vuitton rarely makes mistakes in the handbag category. And they really struck gold with the Coussin PM. This bag is amazing. Especially in this gorgeous neutral tan!
It’s a beautiful crossbody with a graphic, woven strap. Not only that, the strap is detachable! You get both an every day bag and a special occasion pouch. Plus the embossed monogram is perfection. I mean, crossbody bags don’t get better than this!
-WOJEWODA-studio Akropolis Handbag in Ossein-Leather
What a beautiful bag! This sculptural, croc-effect crossbody is lovely. I love the faux crocodile and the color especially. It’s just an incredible bonus that the strap is detachable!
-WOJEWODA-studio is an independent designer that makes inspired bags. This beautiful crossbody is no exception!
Marni Silver Black Fuchsia Metallic Leather Small Museo Soft Bag
This Marni bag is as close to simple as you’ll get from me. The Museo is aptly named; it’s a strong, rectangular shape that stands on its own. The color palette is also a work of art. I’m loving the bright pink straps paired with this silver metallic.
This is the most simple crossbody on the list but possibly the most useful. It’s roomy and larger than most of the others. It’s perfect for all your necessities including a couple books and maybe an iPad!
