Who Doesn’t Love Zendaya?
Is it just me or do you get envious every time you scan Zendaya’s IG feed? Her every look is so expertly executed and gorgeous. It makes me simultaneously want to be her and also cry.
Who is Law Roach?
Law Roach is a celebrity stylist originally from Chicago. He is now based in LA where he is the self-proclaimed ”image architect” for people like Kerry Washington, Colin Kaepernick, Priyanka Chopra, Kehlani, Keke Palmer – the list goes on.
Along with being a stylist, he’s a brand ambassador for many luxury companies and a judge on HBO Max’s Legendary.
Considering his clients and many jobs, one thing’s for damn sure: Roach knows style. They know bomb fashion.
They know every part of a look matters to make it iconic from the hair and makeup to shoes; It’s all part of the formula to create a masterpiece ensemble.
Every celebrity Roach styles looks incredible. But today we’re focusing on my fashion icon, Zendaya. AKA the woman who can pull any look off. AKA the woman who looks so confident in her clothes that she convinces us we can also pull off her looks.
Zendaya’s cool, edgy flair is evident in all her outfits. I’m here to celebrate my favorites.
Zendaya’s Looks
Zendaya in Vivetta (August 2017)
Zendaya stunned us all with this look to at Variety’s Young Hollywood party. Roach’s choice of this pink set reminded me of chic pajamas or a cool take on the classic suit. The bold shoulders and airy fit gave some sophistication while all the sequins screamed PARTY TIME!
It was the perfect ensemble for the venue of a Young Hollywood party. The sequins give young and fun. The pink to red/orange ombre gives trendy.
Zendaya’s red nails, pink lip, and bouncing curly hair come together to create a flirty ensemble. She looks like a beautiful woman ready to party!
Roach and Zendaya snatched this look straight from Vivetta’s Fall 2017 runway for Variety’s early August 2017 party. They are on point, on trend and always on time.
Zendaya in Vivienne Westwood (2021)
Our fashion dream team took to London to showcase this beautiful ensemble on a press tour for Zendaya’s upcoming film Dune. How fitting! A movie about warriors deserves exactly this chic, armored look.
Can you ever go wrong with chains and chainmail? (Don’t answer that.) Here, the chains most definitely work. Overall, it’s the color palette that ties everything together so perfectly.
The checked pattern is the perfect brown to complement the rustic, vintage style chains of the top. Plus the nude shoe makes for a chic nomad vibe that works works works!
Again Roach and Zendaya grabbed this look straight from the runway even styling again with a nude shoe. The top on Zendaya does look adjusted to show more torso than the model.
That was a great choice since a shorter top gives it a more casual vibe that reflects Zendaya’s fashion sense.
Zendaya in Alexandre Vauthier (2020)
What’s great about magazine shoots is the clothes can just be about cutting-edge fashion and not also about function. In Zendaya’s December 2020 Elle cover, almost all of her outfits were haute couture. And stunning.
Take this high fashion look. It’s so effortless, sharp and expensive. Combining this highly intricate gold set with Nike sneakers speaks to who Zendaya is as a young, Black movie star.
She’s a fashion chameleon who transforms from a young party girl to a sophisticated femme fatale from photo to photo. Here – she’s everything.
Zendaya in Balmain (2021)
We must thank Dune for inspiring yet another stunning look. Here, Zendaya wore a form-fitting, leather gown to Dune’s red carpet premiere in Venice. The look was topped with a massive emerald Bulgari pendant, simple diamond studs and a picturesque wavy hair moment to match the snake-like shape of the pendant.
This red carpet moment makes Zendaya look like a femme fatale. The nude leather and nods to reptiles in her jewelry/hair give me temptress vibes. It’s sexy with a hint of danger. The smokey eye finishes the look beautifully. It adds an air of mystery to an overall captivating ensemble.
Zendaya in Giorgio Armani Privé (2020)
This was Zendaya’s best look for the Emmys to date.
Don’t get me wrong, her gown for the 2019 Emmys was simply outstanding. However, I love both looks for different reasons and the reasons for 2020 Emmys beat 2019, okay?
Firstly, 2020’s custom Giorgio Armani Prive gown. It’s beautiful, inventive and playful. The sequined bandeau with the deep V-neck is simply genius. I honestly think if that deep neckline weren’t there I wouldn’t like this gown as much.
The deep V highlights the gown’s balance and structure; It leads your gaze down to a snatched waist and the perfect starting point for the skirt’s luscious volume.
This dress is the beauty of fashion. It’s the ideal culmination of a designer joining forces with a muse, understanding her and translating their materials to do her fashion sense justice.
When I see Armani’s sketch compared with the final result, I’m reminded why designers’ art is so expensive. Armani’s creative genius cannot be replicated with this same panache and skill. It’s clear the man knows how to dress a woman.
It makes me wonder how many okay pieces he’s designed to come up with something so appropriate for Zendaya and for the occasion. This gown is perfection. The styling paired with this gown is perfection. Case closed.
Final Word
Zendaya is a fashion icon who’s only getting more iconic. Her every outfit is impactful and memorable. While these choices were only a sampling of her high-fashion files, they all truly inspire me.
What makes them incredible is witnessing Roach and Zendaya come together to turn her outfits into stories. You see the inspiration and flawless execution every time! That is truly remarkable. I look forward to seeing more and more of their work.
