Often when I’m doing research for Style Files, I happen upon apparel I desperately want. The problem is, I rarely have the budget or occasion to justify purchasing them.
I used to file these tops, pants and dresses in a note aptly titled “Check When Cheap”. This note became a catchall for apparel I loved, but had no immediate reason to purchase. Now, I realize there are a few ways I can approach encountering items I love and don’t need.
I could simply purchase it even if I don’t have an upcoming event. This approach works since a lot of times before events I scramble to find the right outfit. I reference brands I love, and try re-working pieces I already own. But still I may not have the piece I was pining for previously. By simply purchasing what I want even before I have an event that requires it, I save myself from that scrambling time.
Another approach is I file away the pieces I love and reference them when the time comes. Hence my “Check When Cheap” note stored on my phone. And now hence this list!
